WALK & WHEEL TO SCHOOL WEEK!

Sidney Elementary is participating in the CRD’s fourth annual Walk & Wheel to School Week from October 5-9.

We will be encouraging active travel all week!

When we walk and wheel, everyone wins. School communities can see lower traffic volumes, breathe cleaner air, and feel more connected with their local neighbourhood and peers. Best of all, walking and wheeling can be done daily outdoors with plenty of distance while supporting student mental and physical health.

Students who walk or wheel (bus, bike, scoot or skate) all or part way to/from school, will get a sticker to put on our school trip tracking poster. Staff will be handing out the stickers for the poster at the new bike racks starting at 8:25 each morning. Walkers can swing by on the way to their class line up. Students who walk or wheel will also fill out a draw entry in their classroom each day and the following week we will draw for prizes.

Here are some ways you can get involved:

  • Walk or wheel as a family

  • Practice walking and wheeling to school during less busy times with your child and identify the safest walking and wheeling route for your family.

  • Connect with other children or families in your neighbourhood and ride in together

  •  If driving a vehicle, consider ‘Drive to 5’- look for a convenient parking location with a safe 5 minute walking route to the school (it’s good exercise and helps reduce traffic congestion. Try the Sidney Library, Dollarama, or Thrifty Foods)
