Update from the Principal
by Sidney Elementary - Wednesday, 1 November 2017, 3:14 PM

Sidney Elementary is a school grounded in collaboration and community. A focus on academics, wellness, arts and the outdoors is our strength. We live by our school beliefs and focus on the virtues of respect, courage, acceptance, perseverance and kindness.

With the completion of our renovations it is time for a new beginning to match our beliefs & virtues. In consultation with our staff and Parent Advisory Council it has been decided for a change in our school mascot. We will be transitioning from the Sidney Penguins to the Sidney Bee’s.

Why the Bee?

The bee was selected because they are some of the hardest working creatures on the planet. Because of their laborious work ethic they are responsible for pollinating about one-sixth of the flowering plant species worldwide and approximately 400 different agricultural types of plant. Bees also have a strong colony culture of collaboration, cooperation and trust which happens uniformly and automatically at every place within the hive.  There is a belief that being a part of the hive will produce something exceptional, by working together.

How will we transition?

This will be a gradual transition. To start, our school beliefs will become our “bee-liefs” and our “Penguin Posts” will become our “BEE Bulletins.” We will also be starting with new school clothing. Order forms will be coming out next week with orders being filled by mid December.

Thank you for your support as we continue our journey to make our school the most innovative and exciting school in our district.

With appreciation,

Tom Vickers
